Membership International Ranger Federation

National, State or Territorial associations of professional rangers, or equivalent staff are invited to affiliate to the Federation.

MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

Associations should represent rangers whose duties include:

Protection and preservation of wild lands and their resident flora and fauna
Protection and preservation of historical and cultural heritages
Provision of recreational and educational opportunities in natural settings
Interpretation of natural, historical and cultural themes
Administration of protected areas

All member associations have an equal voice in the Federation activities and are represented at a regional level by an elected representative on the International Executive Council (IEC).

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

Membership in the IRF is generally not open to individuals. This is a federation of ranger associations. However, there are exceptions as noted in the following categories.

Regular membership in the IRF is open to national, state and territorial ranger associations, as approved by the IEC.

Provisional membership may be granted to individual rangers or groups of rangers where no formally constituted ranger association is in existence.

Associate (non-voting) membership is open to individuals or groups who further the cause of the IRF or protected areas.

Honorary (non-voting) membership may be bestowed on individuals or groups who have made a significant contribution to the IRF, a member association or the conservation field.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Requirements for membership are established by the IEC in the Standing Rules. All memberships, to become effective, must be approved by the IEC. Membership in the IRF is without distinction as to rank, sex, race, colour, language or religion.

The dues for regular membership are 1% of the annual dues of the member associations, to be used for IRF purposes. These dues are usually kept with the Member Association but dedicated to IRF work. Associate members dues are established in the Standing Rules by the IEC and are currently US$50 per year. Honorary members pay no dues.

To be a member in good standing, an association must:

* Pay annual dues or report on how dues are supporting IRF work.

* Submit an annual report to the Secretary.

* Submit at least one article to the IRF publication Thin Green Line each year.
